How far the consulate is from your city

Driving distances to the consulate that covers each city, calculated at posted speed limits and without traffic:

City Consulate Distance Journey
Sioux Falls Chicago 575 miles 10 h 33 min by car
Aberdeen Chicago 702 miles 13 h 22 min by car
Rapid City Chicago 914 miles 15 h 52 min by car

From Rapid City that is 15 h 52 min by car each way, which makes it worth checking the consular outreach schedule before committing to the drive: missions bring passport and dual citizenship services to cities without a consulate, and the appointments are free.

Before you plan the journey

Before booking anything, check whether your document involves a consulate at all. Three of the most common ones do not:

The short version: PSA certificates are ordered online from Manila, apostilles on documents issued in South Dakota come from the state's own competent authority, since 15 May 2019 the consulate cannot authenticate them, and the NBI clearance travels by mail; only its fingerprint card needs a consular officer.

What does require you in person is anything carrying your biometrics or your signature: a passport, the oath of allegiance and a special power of attorney.

Sioux Falls to Chicago is around nine hours by road. Confirm your checklist by email before travelling: this consulate is appointment-only and closes at 4:00 PM.
