What can be done without leaving home

Before booking anything, check whether your document involves a consulate at all. Three of the most common ones do not:

The short version: PSA certificates are ordered online from Manila, apostilles on documents issued in New Jersey come from the state's own competent authority, since 15 May 2019 the consulate cannot authenticate them, and the NBI clearance travels by mail; only its fingerprint card needs a consular officer.

What does require you in person is anything carrying your biometrics or your signature: a passport, the oath of allegiance and a special power of attorney.

For much of northern New Jersey the consulate is a short train ride away, which makes this one of the best-served Filipino communities in the country in practical terms.
